Overview
Vault can store a two-step (TOTP) authenticator key directly on a login item and generate the rotating six-digit verification code for you. That way you do not need a separate authenticator app for accounts saved in your vault.
This is different from two-factor authentication on your Heimlane account - it is a verification code for one of your saved logins.
Note: The integrated authenticator is a premium feature. You can save an authenticator key on any plan, but generating the verification code requires a premium plan.
Adding an authenticator key
- Edit the login item
- In the Authenticator key (TOTP) field, either:
- Tap Set up authenticator key to scan the website’s QR code with your camera, or
- Paste the website’s setup key (the secret it shows you)
- Save
Using the code
With a premium plan, open the login item and Vault shows the current six-digit verification code with a countdown until it refreshes. Use Copy to copy the code, then paste it into the website’s two-step prompt. You can also enable automatic TOTP copy so the code is copied to your clipboard when you autofill the login.
Tips
- Keep your master password strong and turn on two-factor authentication for your Heimlane account, since these codes live in your vault.
- Storing a password and its verification code together is convenient. For the highest security, some users prefer to keep the two in separate places.
