Overview
Your fingerprint phrase is a unique series of words derived from your account’s encryption keys. It lets you, or someone you share with, confirm that a device or request genuinely belongs to your account before trusting it.
Viewing your fingerprint phrase
Browser extension: Settings > Account security > Fingerprint phrase
Mobile (Android and iOS): Settings > Account security > Account fingerprint phrase
A dialog titled Your account’s fingerprint phrase shows the words.
When you will use it
- Approving a login from another device (log in with device): compare the phrase shown on both devices and only approve if they match exactly.
- Trusting a new device or granting emergency access.
- Confirming a member you have invited to a Shared Vault, so you know you are confirming the right person.
Good to know
- Your fingerprint phrase is not a secret in the way your master password is, but you should only approve a request when the phrase matches exactly.
- The same phrase always represents your account, so it will look familiar each time you see it.
Tips
- Take a moment to read the phrase carefully on both screens before approving anything.
- If two phrases do not match, decline the request and check with the other person.
