Install and use the Vault browser extension

Overview

The Heimlane Vault browser extension allows you to autofill passwords, save new logins, and access your vault directly from your browser toolbar.

Installing the Extension

  1. Open your browser’s extension store

    • Chrome: Chrome Web Store
    • Firefox: Firefox Add-ons
    • Edge: Microsoft Edge Add-ons
    • Safari: Available via Mac App Store

  2. Search for “Heimlane Vault”

  3. Click Add to [Browser Name] or Install

  4. Grant permissions when prompted

    • The extension needs permission to read and modify website data for autofill to work

Chrome/Edge:

  1. Click the puzzle piece icon (Extensions) in your toolbar
  2. Find Heimlane Vault in the list
  3. Click the pin icon to keep it visible

Firefox:

  1. Right-click the Heimlane Vault icon in the overflow menu
  2. Select Pin to Toolbar

First Login

  1. Click the Heimlane Vault icon in your browser toolbar
  2. Enter your email address
  3. Enter your master password
  4. Click Log in

Using the Extension

To autofill a login:

  1. Navigate to a website’s login page
  2. Click the Heimlane Vault icon or use keyboard shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+L / Cmd+Shift+L)
  3. Select the login from the list
  4. Your credentials are automatically filled

To save a new login:

  1. Log in to a website normally
  2. Vault will display a notification asking to save
  3. Click Save to add it to your vault
  4. Or click Never for this site to dismiss permanently

Tips

  • Use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+L (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Shift+L (Mac) to quickly access autofill
  • Right-click any password field to access Vault options from the context menu
  • The extension icon shows a badge when you’re logged out

Troubleshooting

Issue: Extension doesn’t appear after installation Solution: Restart your browser. If still missing, check browser://extensions to ensure it’s enabled.

Issue: Autofill doesn’t work on a website Solution: Some websites block autofill. Try right-clicking the field and selecting “Heimlane Vault” > “Autofill”, or copy/paste from the extension popup.

Issue: Can’t log in to the extension Solution: Ensure your master password is correct. Check your internet connection. Try logging in via the web vault first.
