The Heimlane Vault desktop app gives you full vault access without opening a browser. Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux.

Installation
Windows:
- Download the installer (.exe)
- Run the installer
- Follow the setup wizard
- Launch from Start Menu or desktop shortcut
macOS:
- Download the .dmg file
- Open the .dmg
- Drag Vault to Applications folder
- Launch from Applications or Spotlight
Linux:
- Download the AppImage
- Make it executable:
chmod +x Heimlane-Vault.AppImage - Run the AppImage
- (Optional) Integrate with your desktop environment
Setting Up
- Open the Vault app
- Click Log In
- Enter your email address
- Enter your master password
- Complete 2FA if enabled
- Your vault syncs automatically

System Tray / Menu Bar
The app runs in the background for quick access:
Windows:
- Look for the Vault icon in the system tray (near the clock)
- Click to open, right-click for menu
macOS:
- Look for the Vault icon in the menu bar
- Click to open mini vault
Linux:
- System tray support varies by desktop environment
Desktop-Specific Features
Global Hotkey:
- Press
Ctrl+Shift+V(configurable) to open Vault from anywhere
Browser Integration:
- The desktop app can communicate with browser extensions
- Enables biometric unlock for extensions
SSH Agent (Advanced):
- Store SSH keys in Vault
- Use Vault as your SSH agent
Security Settings

Biometric Unlock
Enable Windows Hello, Touch ID, or fingerprint:
- Go to Settings > Security
- Enable Unlock with biometrics
- Confirm with your master password
Requirements:
- Windows: Windows Hello configured
- macOS: Touch ID or Apple Watch
- Linux: Varies by system
Troubleshooting
Problem: App won’t start
Solutions:
- Check system requirements
- Run as administrator (Windows)
- Check Gatekeeper settings (macOS)
- Check app permissions
Problem: Biometric unlock unavailable
Solutions:
- Ensure biometrics are set up in OS
- Update to latest app version
- Reinstall the app
Problem: Can’t connect to sync
Solutions:
- Check internet connection
- Check firewall settings
- Verify proxy configuration if applicable
Tips
- Use keyboard shortcuts for faster access
- Enable “Start on login” for always-available access
