Overview
You can permanently delete your Heimlane Vault account at any time. This action is irreversible - all your data will be permanently destroyed.
Before You Delete
This action is permanent. Consider these points:
- All vault data will be deleted forever
- This includes logins, notes, cards, identities
- Attachments will be deleted
- Zone memberships will be removed
- Premium subscriptions will be cancelled (no refund for remaining time)
- Emergency access relationships will be removed
Export Your Data First
We strongly recommend exporting your vault before deletion:
- Go to Tools > Export Vault
- Choose your format (encrypted JSON recommended)
- Save to a secure location
- Verify the export contains your data

Steps to Delete Account
- Log in to the web vault at vault.heimlane.io
- Click your profile icon in the top right
- Select Account Settings
- Scroll to Danger Zone
- Click Delete Account
- Read the warning carefully
- Enter your master password to confirm
- Type “DELETE” to confirm you understand
- Click Delete My Account
What Happens After Deletion
Immediately:
- You’re logged out of all devices
- Your vault data is queued for deletion
- Your email becomes available for new registration
Within 24-48 hours:
- All encrypted vault data is purged from servers
- Backups are cleared
- No recovery is possible
Zone Owner Considerations
If you own Zones:
- Transfer ownership before deletion, OR
- The Zone will be deleted with all shared data
- Zone members will lose access to shared items
To transfer Zone ownership:
- Go to Zone settings
- Click Members
- Promote another member to Owner
- Then proceed with account deletion
Troubleshooting
Problem: Can’t find delete option
Solutions:
- Must use web vault (not mobile or extension)
- Check you’re in Account Settings, not Vault settings
- Scroll to “Danger Zone” section
Problem: Delete button is disabled
Solutions:
- You may be the only owner of a Zone
- Transfer Zone ownership first
- Or delete the Zone first
Problem: Changed my mind after clicking delete
Solutions:
- Contact support immediately (within hours)
- Recovery is not guaranteed
- Act quickly - deletion is processed in batches
Alternatives to Deletion
Before deleting, consider:
- Export and keep account - Download your data, keep account inactive
- Remove sensitive items - Delete specific items rather than whole account
- Downgrade to free - Cancel premium but keep your vault
- Change email - If privacy is the concern
